Cape Elizabeth, ME-- This past August, Cape Elizabeth High School officials installed a third set of doors in the front lobby meant to increase security on campus.

After talking to the Cape Elizabeth High School vice principal, Mr. Carpenter, we have learned about these doors, and he has answered many of the questions that students have.

The doors are ready to start being used. However, what is holding it up is making the senior ID cards compatible with the doors.

There are some positive and negative aspects that these doors have. There are a lot of students who enjoy walking outside after lunch instead of walking up the stairs. As of right now students will be allowed to do this. However, there may be a hold up and it may take longer to get through the door as the front desk has to buzz everyone in.

Mr. Carpenter said, “the end goal eventually is to have the ID cards be linked to the library and the cafe.” The reason for linking it all together would be to make it easier to check out books and buy food.

The overall purpose for the doors is to give students a feeling of general safety and teachers a sense of wellbeing for the students.
